Three scratch-defects: three states of the surface
The bearing raceway under magnification after the experiment
Inner ring of the bearing after the experiment: three scratch-defects across the raceway. The magnified photo shows a section of this raceway.
123
1Control scratch-defect
Made after the experiment was completed; it never ran on XADO grease.
250 hours of running
The scratch-defect is healing: the distance between its edges has decreased more than twofold.
3100 hours of running
The defect has been eliminated completely.
The longer a scratch-defect ran on XADO grease, the less of it remained. The scratch-defects were made one after another: the first went through two cycles of 50 hours, the second through one, the control one through none.
Experiment details
How the experiment is set upSteps, test bench conditions and what the experiment does not show
The bearings are of one type and one manufacturer, and the scratch-defects are made by a laser with the same settings, so the difference between them depends only on the running time. The bearing runs on a test bench under load on XADO PRO MAX grease; the scratch-defects are made one by one in the breaks.
01First scratch-defect
A laser makes a transverse scratch-defect 0.05 mm¹ deep and wide on the new raceway.
0250 hours of running
The bearing runs on the test bench under load on XADO grease.
03Second scratch-defect
A second scratch-defect with the same settings is made next to it, and the bearing runs for another 50 hours.
04Control scratch-defect
After completion a third scratch-defect is made: it never ran on XADO grease.
It is a demonstration on a single bearing, not a service life test.
A laser-made scratch-defect does not reproduce every kind of wear in a real unit.
Microhardness depends on where and how it is measured: compare the same areas of the raceway at the same load.
The result depends on the material, load, lubricant, dosage and running time.
¹ Actual values may differ: this is a bearing for promotional purposes, and the revitalization time is short.
² Microhardness is measured selectively: on one of the bearings of the batch being treated.
What happens to a bearing after 50 hours on ordinary greaseA separate test, not the demonstration bearing
A control bearing with a scratch-defect first runs for 50 hours on ordinary grease: the defect grows and wear marks appear on the raceway. Then the same bearing runs on XADO PRO MAX grease for another 50 hours. You can see that not only the scratch-defect but also the defects caused by ordinary grease begin to fill in.

02·Check for yourself
Order a bearing and see for yourself
Everything shown on this page can be checked on the demonstration bearing with your own instruments
Healing of the scratch-defect
Under a microscope one raceway shows all three states: the control scratch-defect, a healing one and an eliminated one.
Coating on the raceway
Examine the metal-ceramic coating that formed on the working surface while the bearing ran on XADO grease.
Microhardness before and after
The bearings are of one type and one manufacturer: measure the raceway microhardness of a new identical bearing and of the demonstration one.
Your own methods
Roughness, profile and composition of the surface: study the sample the way it is done in your lab.
A bearing with scratch-defects after the experiment: for a stand, an exhibition, a presentation or a laboratory. Order it to see for yourself how the coating formed and the scratch-defect healed.
Promotional material for stands, exhibitions and presentations: the result is visible without instruments
A sample for study: the scratch-defects under a microscope, microhardness before and after, roughness
A repeatable result: bearings of one type and manufacturer, scratch-defects of the same depth and width
